Swedish is for Every Body!

Swedish massage, Classic massage or Relaxation massage is a modern version of techniques developed in the mid 1800's. By the early 1900's, these manipulations were more defined as five foundational massage strokes : Effleurage, Petrissage, Tapotement, Friction and Vibration.

The predominant stroke is effleurage: long, gliding strokes over larger surfaces, usually oriented with the veinous flow. Petrissage is the kneading stroke, designed to infuse the muscle with fresh, oxygenated blood. Tapotement is a rhythmic, repetitive movement - often performed with a fist, cupped palm, the edge of the hand or with the fingertips. Friction is applied to a specific, small area with the focus on moving the skin over the soft tissues below to break up adhesions and tight fascia. Vibration also targets small areas and creates a shimmering effect.

Modern Swedish massage encompasses a variety of techniques using the foundation strokes and can include stretching, traction and / or compression to achieve maximum relaxation while addressing muscular and soft tissue dysfunction.
